Fire up your dual sport and take a ride on the wild side.

This scenic ride will wind through redwood forests, cross the ridgeline of summit, descend mountain ranges, and overlook the sea.

Lunch will be at Corralitos market.

The ride is about 40% dirt roads.

Mount Umunhum (Ohlone, meaning resting place of the hummingbird) is the fourth-highest peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

Milo, Thanks! This was a lot of fun at a great pace. It was a beautiful day for exploring a variety of road surfaces. Great group of safe, fast riders too.

I had a blast today, what a great group of friends. I thank everyone for coming out to play.
The ride will be posted again on April 5th, in reverse this time. It will be called
    “One Step Beyond (Pavement)”
Jagan made the ride look easy on his Yamaha V-Star, yes you’re right, it’s not a dual sport, it’s a cruiser.

from the pictures, it looks like this route was doable on non-dual sport bike. what was the route?

I could do it on my Goldwing. But it would take a beating!

Now that's what I call a ride out! Thank you, Milo.

Great change of pace. I love using my dual-sport for exactly what it was made for. Just need to add an overnight, a few beers, and a campfire and it would be perfect!

Is this ride still on for the 9th?

So, looking at the weather it looks like we may miss the rain. I'll be watching and may join in if it's not storming.

I think, I'll put my watertight panniers on for flotation assistance. Anyone know how much thrust I'll get from a worn knobbie back tire? ;)

<^---- Needs to win lotto to quit job and buy all kinds of bikes. :) Enjoy.

most of us need that down payment though! ha ha

Ha Ha - Josh is right! Not to mention Ins, reg, tax, lic, maintenance schedules and parts. I eliminate all that by riding OP's bikes and free demo's...and there is sh1t-loads more space in my garage. Own the bike you love and borrow any bike you want!

I'd be up for it if it's postponed until things dry out. I have stock tires on my DR650 which are something like 60/40 street (I would guess). That and I'm a n00b on two wheels for the time-being.

What is the general skill-level required for this ride? I've ridden three-wheelers everywhere, but I'm new to two wheels. I don't want to be "that guy" and ruin the ride for everyone else if it's much more than beginner stuff.

I have pushed this ride back to next Sunday.

It's going to be mud soup this weekend. I'd love to make the ride when it dries out though!

I'd love to do this route when terrain is better! Thanks for posting, Milo!

I'd love to go, but I'm new to dual-sport and I don't want to be "that guy" that holds everyone back. I've got more than ten years on ATCs, so I'm not new to off-road though. What skill level would you say this is, and do you think it's "newbie friendly"?

I'm curious as to what kind of bike? Are these simple dirt roads or something a bit more 'dual'? How many miles and hours?

    February 24, 2014

  • Bradley

Doh! If this fell on a Sunday I'd be in. Gotta work Saturdays.

    February 23, 2014

    • Milo

Ok, I'll repost in about a month on a Sunday
