Walk Don Fries Recreational Area

This a small tucked away nature trail built into a natural ravine with many ups and downs for those who like a challenge and just as much flatter terrain for those with less experience or looking for something a little more leisurely.

The address is a little deceiving as the trail parking is not on Buchanan Road. From College Avenue (CE) go to Buchanan Road (K) (Between N in Kimberly and 55 in Kaukauna). Take Buchanan North (toward the river). At the stop sign, Buchanan goes to the right. Going straight changes to Park Street. Take Park Street about 1/2 mile up. There is a park entrance on the left at the bottom of the hill. We'll meet in the parking lot.

For those of you with GPS, there is a house about 50 yards before the parking lot entrance. The address is 528 Park Street, Combined Locks. That should get you close.

I'm not going to make it by 9:30 but it sounds fun so I'm still heading down there. If you see a yellow navy t - shirt it's probably me.

Perfect answer, Tracy. I agree. I hope the rain holds off so you can all enjoy this nearby paradise.

Hi Cheryl...that's a bit hard to say. The ravine from end to end is maybe a little over a half mile. But there are tons of little paths and trails that snake through the ravine. I did it myself last summer taking what I think was every possible route and it took me about 90 minutes. The long and short is it can be as long or as short as you want to make it. At the farthest in, you are probably no more than 3/4 of a mile from the parking lot. Hope that helps.

I haven't been to this area for 10-15 years but used to walk my dogs there. I'm really looking forward to it, and so are my current four-leggeds.

I was here tonight. With the damp trail under the tree cover, the bugs were bad if you stop. Minimal while on the move but Doris is right. I suggest bug spray. You may want to wear older shoes if you have them. Many of the paths are clay with some gravel mixed in for traction but with the tree cover, it is a bit "softer" in some areas.

This trail and ravine is beautiful ! A little paradise in the city. You may want to bring bug spray. Haven't been there recently to know if it's needed.
