Native Plant Walk to Tarkiln Bayou Preserve

James Burkhalter will help us find our unique native plants and beautiful wildflowers as we travel the boardwalk and nature trails looking for the four species of native, endangered pitcher plants.

Expect easy walking, and please take what measures you need to be outdoors all morning. We expect to finish by noon.

This event is free.

It was my first time to the Preserve. A lovely spot. Our guide was generous with his information and open to questions. His wealth of knowledge filled my brain to overflow. I am so happy to have learned more about native plants. I would certainly do another outing like this one. I enjoyed the others who came to this outing. It is my experience that people interested in the outdoors flora and fauna are good people. I was happy to see pictures posted.

Calhoun, I'm sorry I am just seeing this lovely review of the Native Plant trip. We are so glad you enjoyed your time with James. He is truly passionate about plants and his enthusiasm is the best kind of infectious! I hope to one day be able to join you on these outings to learn about our beautiful native plants. Thank you so much for your kind words, and again, please forgive my oversight. Brenda

    Can we bring dogs?

Mellita, I'm sorry, I was out of town for this trip so I just saw your question. As much as we love dogs, we ask that you leave them and all pets at home when attending our events. I hope it was a good day! Brenda

I am fairly new to the area. I am happy to have this opportunity to learn about the native plant life, my new friends! Camera and notebook will be my extras for this outing.

Everyone, please forgive me for not replying sooner, family stuff.
Yes, the park is closed until 8, so meeting at the gate at 7:45 will work perfectly. Robert, thank you for mentioning about the bridge. I had forgotten about that challenge!
I hope you all have a wonderful time and again, I'm sorry I took so long to reply.

Park gate gate says, "Park opens 8 A.M." Bridges are out on Bauer Rd south of park. I recommend taking hwy 98/30/Lillian Hwy then south on Bauer.

I might be able to attend, depending on my schedule. I live close by, so would not be carpooling. What time do you think you will arrive at the preserve? 7:45-8:00am?

That sounds about right, probably closer to 8. Unfortunately I can't contact this trip leader to ask him. Just show up and he'll welcome you in!
