WebTech Beverage Subgroup

With Kevin's permission, I've stepped up to take on organizing a beverage subgroup for Frederick WebTech. What's a beverage subgroup you ask? Well if you look around at other meetups in the area (Baltimore PHP and DC PHP come to mind), it's an idea that they've embraced and that work well for them.

Basically put, it's a second meeting each month from the main meeting, but instead of being centered around having a presentation and 'learning something', it's purely about having an excuse to hang out, relax, and socialize with like minded people.

One twist I'd like to introduce is making this a family friendly event! (At least my family will be attending with me). We will be meeting up at Brewer's Alley, in the bar area, but we'll snag a table. We'll officially get rolling at 6pm, but I'll probably always show up earlier with the family to snag dinner there first :)

Make sure that you RSVP at least a couple hours in advance, so that we can make sure and get a large enough table for everyone that night!

This was a great idea. I've been to a couple meetups and am happy about content learned, but its not an easy way to meet people, so I felt I was about to learn about the people I'd previously met up with...

Hey everyone. Given we have 19 people reserved so far, the idea of cramming into the Bar Area seemed 'subpar'. I've made a table reservation for us instead. Once I'm on site I'll update the group here with details of where exactly we are sitting. But ask for "Frederick WebTech" and hopefully they'll direct you.

It is a great idea. I always like the meeting after the meeting at Brewers Alley. One suggestion I have, the bar is always so loud and crowded I can't hear anyone talk. Maybe we can meet in another part of BA.

Aynex, that's a good idea, and we may try it. I'm hoping (hoping) that on Monday evenings, that Brewer's Alley will actually be rather dead, and so it won't be a problem.

The catch with just 'getting a table', as I've seen done at DC and Balt at various times, is it tends to really mess up the whole 'splitting the check' aspect. At the bar they tend to be much more relaxed and open about the idea of 20 people sitting around a couple tables and everyone paying their own.

Do that at a restaurant table, and they wanna tack on 20% tip and give you one bill :) Plus given that meetups traditionally have the problem of "10 people reserved, great, that means anywhere from 2 to 20 will show up" :-D

Anyway, I'd like to give it a try at those big bar tables this time, and we can move it around as needed. Each time I'll use the meetup app to send a message to the group about where exactly in BA we end up.

This is awesome! We'll be moving between rentals this next month, but hopefully I can bring my family to some of the future events :)

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
