EXERCISES & Critiques as we have time

  • Jun 16, 2014 · 7:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Based on discussions tonight we will do thefollowing at the next meeting: 1. Exercises: Beverly will show up with at least 3 types of exercise and you will choose a type and do the exercise --- we will spend at least an hour to choose, do he exercise, share as you wish with other participants.

Do go ahead and submit a piece to critique if you will, we'll spend hour 2 doing that.

We need feedback too ------
1. types of exercises you most want/need to further you
2. Other activities, like speakers or roundtable discussions common to the group like e-pubs, use of agents, . .. 3. Contests we could sponsor and award, etc...
4. Do we want sponsors, for what?
5. Do we want to make sure the membership is active by a nominal fee ?

Hey I will be there tonight, really and truly. The 72hour Script-Writing festival is this weekend; and what's his name (the organizer) asked me to spread the word.

If you can't make the meeting, here's the link: http://www.72fest.com/a-contest-returns/

Darn it. I'm booked this week end due to a wine festival in Hagerstown. Some of my stories are the right length for a movie.

Can we jump in at any time? I've been a lurker up through now. I an't make it on the 16th, but if another is held on the 23rd or 30th, I'll be there. Love the idea of exercises. Right now for me, anything would help since I've been in a writing lull for the past few months...

Adeena, yes, absolutely, feel free to jump in at anytime. :)

I'm going to leave my RSVP as "yes" for now, but I may be going out of town this upcoming week and I'm not completely sure I'll be here. Just playing this by ear right now, but wanted to give a heads up.

    Feedback thoughts:
    1) Any exercises that get people thinking/creating is a positive for me, and I'd say most writers. Short short fiction during the group was fun when I did it a few meetings ago.
    2) Any speaker willing to come is a nice touch I don't personally think we need them per se, as i think our gatherings when we have them work well in their own right. But I am not opposed to speakers, either.
    3) I'm not as wild about contests, honestly. I think that would complicate matters a bit, and i think the simplicity of what we do at the meetings (fiction and poetry) is part of the appeal.
    4) I'm not certain what this means, exactly. If by sponsors we mean soliciting businesses to give us money to help defray the costs of our meetings or pay for extra activities, I don't think that's going to be an easy sell.
    5) A nominal yearly fee, perhaps. But I'm against charging a fee for every person at every meeting.

Great comments and a lot of experience in their conceptual development, obviously. I agree with the contests being idsruptive and the sponsorship --- hard for either sponor or the sponsored to emeet expectations.
