This site includes information about local free mental health support groups sponsored by an assortment of local nonprofit advocacy organizations.  Most sessions last about 90 minutes.  Here people learn from one others’ experiences, share coping strategies, learn about community resources and offer each other encouragement and understanding.

Facilitators of groups listed here have had some training for the role to help ensure that time is shared, that participants are considerate and that sessions generally end with something upbeat.

Newcomers are welcome and are encouraged to  try different groups.  One is for Spanish-speaking only.  Some are for military veterans.  Most are for the struggling individual; a few are for their supporters. The tone of a given group can vary from week to week, but each group tends to have its own personality.  When you find your best fit, you are likely to gain more with regular attendance and participation.

The volunteer coordinator for this site, Karen, has visited most of the groups listed and is available for questions, suggestions and concerns at kakallay@gmail.com (checked every few days) or (540) 373-1744.  She is actively seeking and promoting groups in more out-lying locations.  Tips are welcomed!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
