Religious Freedom Day Parade and Ceremony

Sunday, January 8, 2012 is Religious Freedom Day, this is the  day that Fredericksburg celebrates the writing of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom. Believed to have been drafted here in Fredericksburg by Thomas Jefferson in 1777.  The Religious Freedom Monument on Washington Avenue was built to commemorate the drafting of the Statute that is the basis of the First Amendment to the US Constitution.

A parade, composed mostly of local church groups, starts at the Fredericksburg Train Station at 200 Lafayette Blvd at 1:15pm and proceeds through town to the Monument.  (We need to assemble at the train station by 1:00pm.)

The Fredericksburg Coalition of Reason (CoR) has decided to join the parade.  FSH is a member organization of CoR along with Drinking Skeptically, Reading Skeptically, Fredericksburg Parenting Beyond Belief, and Conservative Skeptics of Virginia.  One of our Coalition of Reason Press Spokesmen will be in charge of our presence in the parade and ceremony. This is a CoR publicity campaign intended to help other non-believers find us.  Please do not talk to the press, however, lest something is said that is open to misinterpretation and could lead to negative publicity.  Please try to refer all questions to one of our two trained Press Spokesmen, who know the appropriate talking points.

Our parade banner below will not be allowed, it will be shortened to United Coalition of Reason in accordance with parade rules.
