-- Vodka Diplomacy: And Other Adventures and Lessons in the New Russia, by Phaedra Fisher

http://www.amazon.com/Vodka-Diplomacy-Adventures-Lessons-ebook/dp/B00D2BVD0A

Liberty lovers around the world cheered when the Soviet Union collapsed in the early 1990s. But although the old institutions of the Soviet Union had crumbled, the framework to support a free market economy did not exist. Written as a personal adventure rather than an academic tome, Phaedra Fisher recounts her first hand experiences of working throughout Russia during this era – and the lessons learned for champions of individual rights and economic freedom everywhere.

Phaedra Fisher completed her Master’s Degree in International Economics and Russian Studies at the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of International Studies (SAIS). From 1993 to 1996 she worked on a number of US-government funded projects throughout Russia and Kazakhstan. Although she has not returned to Russia since 1996, her life continues to offer new adventures and lessons.

(Note: The first several chapters are available for free preview on Amazon, so everyone is welcome and encouraged to “try before you buy.”)

Future Free Exchanges - first Saturdays next several months - Speakers TBA.  Volunteers and suggestions welcomed!

7 pm - Midnight

Speaker: 8-9 approx

Hello Friends,

You are all welcome to my monthly open house Free Exchange party. held the first Saturday of each month. Even with a speaker, this is meant to be a low-key social getogether. Other friends are welcome.

I will provide some beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks. Pot luck and BYOB welcomed.

No charge, but donations of $5+ welcomed.

The location is at the main entrance to the Park Merced apartment complex in southwest San Francisco, off of 19th Ave. next to San Francisco State University.

By transit: From downtown stations (or from Balboa Park), take the MUNI M-line trolley to the SF State University stop. You’ll see the Park Merced entrance. My apartment is on the shallow left of the entrance circle between Gonzalez and Crespi. Walk past the front of the building and go to the inner corner - You will see #6 under the lamp.

The 28 bus runs on 19th Ave and stops at SF State, if you are coming from the north or west parts of the city. The 29 Sunset bus also runs here, in fact it stops inside the entrance.

By car from north - Go 19th Ave past SF State and Holloway Drive, turn into Park Merced, go around the entrance circle onto Gonzalez Dr., park at first opportunity.

From East Bay or south - make your way to 280, get off at SF State exit. Go up Junipero Serra to Holloway light, turn left, then left at 19th Ave. light. Park Merced is there.

Transit is recommended, but weekend parking is relatively easy here.

Please RSVP.

Hope to see you!

If you are interested in coming, do not be scared by the small number of RSVPs here. We average 15 attendees, with most of the notices going through an e-mail list and other libertarian Meetups.
