"Do they know it's Christmas?". Do they want to? Do they need to?

For this month I thought that we could discuss issues surrounding presuming to know what is best for others.
Taking this meetup title, do people have to know of our culture(s)? Are they better off with or without knowing? Are we better off not knowing about theirs?
What makes or why are our culture(s) supposedly better?

This topic can also be directed at us Free thinkers.
Do we have the right to educate others to make "better" choices or should it be left to them to make their own decisions?
Should we civilise the savage?

Being a free thinker we do not have to "presume to know what is best for others. In fact it would be my opinion that such a statement does not fall within the remit of being a free thinker.... it fact it may be directly opposed to being a free thinker. However in my view that presumption is not an issue in respect of the second paragraph of the topic.. Education is in itself important but that can cause other difficulties, e.g. details of how to make a bomb on the internet is education but it can be used for very dangerous purposes. But so too of freedom...that's the price of freedom !

I think every one knows its Christmas , unlike many cultures which have celebrations which others do not know about...e.g. Muslin EID, etc. Its good for all cultures & religions to celebrate their culture, but, of course that needs to be tempered with respect for others.....very few would support the Talaban beheading, non education for girls etc. But then Christians love the bible, probabley one of the most violent books written ! !
