Free Spirit Indoors Series: Movie night on a Sunday evening.
Come to watch an AMAZING, INTOXICATING, DEEP, MIND BLOWING, ENTERTAINING AND EDUCATIONAL movie about Gypsy (Rom) culture through their music and dance.
I watched it at least 5 times and really would like to share it with you.
The movie screening will take place in a beautiful apartment of one of our meetup members in Lower East Side. We are lucky to watch it on a big screen using a high quality projector (the space is limited to 15 people)
Filmed by French director Tony Gatlif (a Rom himself) , the film (the title means "Safe Journey") takes the viewer on the same path traveled by Gypsies a thousand years ago. It begins in India, showing a gypsy band in a vast Thar Desert, telling their own story with dances and songs.
Then we travel westward, through Egypt, Turkey, Eastern Europe, France, and finally finish in Spain, where the stunning beauty of gypsy flamenco dance and music will hold you spellbound.
There is no dialog: the lyrics of the songs, the dances and the faces of the people tell us the story of Gypsies: its sadness and joy, suffering, dignity and indomitable spirit.
Accompanied by amazing visuals the movie will leave on you a profound and unforgettable impact.
