2013 Wreaths Across America – Houston

Dec. 14th is the Wreaths Across America Ride. A very special part of the Wreaths Across America – Houston event is the arrival of the wreaths.  The wreaths take a week long journey coming from Maine on our dedicated trucks to Houston.

Early on Saturday morning, on the day of the event, the trucks line up and several hundred motorcycles fall into formation to form a rolling tribute.  The police escorted procession travels to the cemetery where the trucks will be offloaded and the wreaths placed.  On this page you will see the video of one of our escorts, an amazing site to see.

The escort is open to all riders and is attended by countless clubs, individuals and organizations.  It is organized by the Southeast Texas Patriot Guard Riders (PGR).

The escort is open to all riders – free of charge
• No other vehicles permitted

• Destination is Houston National Cemetery – the ride should take about 30-40 minutes.
• Staging begins at 5:30 am at:

Porter Wal-Mart
23561 U.S. 59
Porter, TX 77365

• Safety Briefing at 6:45 am

• KSU at 7:15 am

I am so poroud to be able to call myself a Freedom Cruiser. On days like this i am thankful for all of the sacrifices made for all of us by people that we never knew, but i am also thankful for all us who stand together and show our support for servicemen past and present.

I woke up at 4 AM Saturday, walked outside and it was damp and cold. I posted that I had a change of plans and got back in bed. I layed there and thought about all the sacrifices made by those at the Houston National Cemetery and had to get back up. I am so glad I did. Thanks Freedom Cruisers for scheduling this ride!!!

Had a great time, and was honored to help hang all the wreaths on the columbariums. Though it's going to take a lot of work to get my hands clean from the bailing wire. :)

Geoff Pettinger, why don't you and I meet each other at the Sam's Club at Kirkwood & 59, then we can take the beltwy around to meet everyone else at West Road. Then we can all ride together from there. Glenn Reed so you do not have back track, why dont you just meet us at the Texaco @ West Road & Beltway so all of us can meet there and ride together.

The link will tell you about the motorcycle escort. You do not have to sign up. We met at the Whataburger in Porter, so we could line up as a group. If you wish to donate, there is a link. You can even donate a wreath by name if you know someone buried at the VA cemetery or donate to the cause. $15 per wreath, but they will take more or less I am sure.

    Jan,
Thanks for thinking of that as well. I couldnt find the date for the cleanup, but i have sent them an emai lto request it as soon as they know so we can add that meetup as well. I wanted otget these important meetups posted as soon as possible so we can make sure we have a great turn out and also like in my case, with work the holidays are going to be a very busy time so i can hopefully work as many of these into my schedule as possible. as soon as i hear something i will addthat meetup as well.
