November Meetup: Self-Managing Structures

In November we'll be talking with Julio Pizarro, a business and web development consultant.

Julio will present one of his workshops on Self-Managing Structures.

Learn how to build a self-managing structure so that you can spend less time managing your project or organization and spend more time doing what you love (and what gets you paid).
As freelancers we have to manage ourselves  our projects, our co-workers, and yes, even our clients. We find it difficult to grow and expand as the time devoted to managing these things increases. However we can be more productive, and make it easier to grow our businesses when both the tasks that need to be performed and roles we assign to ourselves and to others  are defined in a way that actually reduces the need for management. We'll cover how to plan a project to be self managing by
  • breaking it down into easy pieces,
  • making everything self-testing,
  • building in accountability to make sure items stay on track,
  • and by removing blocks including the biggest one, which is ourselves.
We'll also discuss why you should start at the end, how to address both tasks (in relation to self-managing projects) and roles (in relation to self-managing organizations). We'll also explore how we sabotage ourselves because we've all learned to make our projects more difficult to manage.

What to bring: Pen & paper (there's no wi-fi), $3-$5 for the wine & food fund, business cards.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
