Freeside Programming Team is a group about getting together to learn and practice advanced programming techniques (and pizza)!
Every meetup we go over a different advanced programming topic, for example:
Sorting algorithms, data structures, discrete optimization (knapsack, traveling salesman), machine learning algorithms, flow networks, streaming algorithms, combinatorics, graph algorithms, and whatever else you might be interested in! If there's a topic you want to cover at the meeting, please post a message below, and we'll attempt to prepare an exercise or notes on that topic.
2:00 - 2:30 = Introduce a cool programming topic
2:30 - 5:30 = Casual programming competition!
5:30 - 6:00 = Review/present solutions
The goal of this meetup is to provide problem solving exercises that help you to improve your programming skills. Typically Nathan, Eldon, Arefin, or Mark prepare the problems, but we welcome contributions from anyone who joins us.
The programming competition can be done in teams or individually. We will have a set of problems that range in difficulty from beginner-level to advanced-level. Most problems expect you to read text or numeric input from stdin and print output text to stdout. If you haven't ever done that in your programming-language-of-choice, that is a good thing to practice before you arrive.
We will have a donation can there to help with pizza and to help Freeside keep the lights on for events like this. It would be sweet if you could help out.
