Learn to Program the TI MSP430 System On a Chip (SOC)

This series is for beginners as well as advanced learners. Introductory topics include: program flow and interrupts. Advanced topics include memory architectures of embedded systems, on-chip peripheral organization and use, power management, system registers, etc. Content will be adapted to your level of expertise.

Five sessions: 11/8, 11/15, 11/29, 12/6 and 12/13

Cost: $40 for the entire sequence or $10 per session

What you need: Laptop with USB port, IDE downloaded from

What is supplied: Development kit and any needed hardware will be supplied. There is nothing to buy. You must be signed up in advance to guarantee we have enough kits.

This class will be led by Wayne Salhany. Wayne has a B. A. in Physics and Math. He has a M. S. in Information Systems from SPSU. He has developed a variety of software systems and has taught computer programming, including introductory level classes at a technical college. He enjoys the learning process and helping others. He also works on robot projects at Freeside.

The MSP430 is a low-cost microcontroller similar to the Arduino. You can find out more about it here.

Membership is not requires to attend these meetings or to take our classes. However, all guests will be required to sign liability waivers before using any tools, which is standard practice for makerspaces.
