The Mission of FACT is to increase public awareness of the benefits of freethought and support causes that employ reasoned and scientific solutions to serious problems, such as separation of church and state.
Challenge the encroachment of religion into federal, state and local governments and eliminate all discriminations and limitations placed upon our civil liberties, such as religious teachings in public schools and religion based limitations on human reproductive freedom.
Provide fellowship and the opportunity to learn, discuss, and share freethought information through the sharing of educational materials and socially relevant guest-speaker presentations.
Sponsor community projects that provide assistance and support to those in need.
In addition, the group sponsors a myriad of social activities, including trips to Hill Country wineries, potluck dinners, family nights out, and much more.
Meetings are free unless otherwise specified; all secular and secular-friendly folks are welcome for intelligent discussion and debate.
FACT is a forum where critical thinking is valued and questions are encouraged.
FACT was founded in 1990 by activist Catherine Fahringer as the Secular Humanist Association of San Antonio. Then, in January of 1999, the membership elected to change the name to the Freethinkers Association of Central Texas (FACT). Today the association is composed of a dedicated group of freethinkers working hard to achieve objectives of great importance.
FACT pays for the Meetup group from the FACT dues.
Radius Center provides a venue for general meetings and special events.
