Fresh Ground Stories: Saved!-Stories of rescue, liberation or getting out alive

Man, I can’t even count how many times I’ve been bailed out, pulled out, picked up and forgiven. If I had the phone numbers of everyone who pulled me back from the edge or kept me from getting there I’d have to bump up my cell phone plan to make all those thank you calls.

Next month’s theme is getting saved. It doesn’t have to be a person who saved you. It could be a thing, a place, an idea, almost anything that turned your life around. It doesn’t matter if it’s music, chemo, your mother or that stranger on the bus. Come to the show and tell us a true story about getting saved (or saving someone). We’d love to hear it.

The rules for stories are below but you know the kind we’re looking for: true stories that happened to you that still mean something to you days, months or even years later.

I hope to see you at our next show on Thursday, Oct 24, 7:00pm at the Roy St Cafe.

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the show this week. So much vulnerability onstage that night. It made me want to go home and work on stories of my own that I’ve been too scared to write.
I feel bad that I forgot my tape recorder at home and didn’t get to record the evening and give everyone a copy of their story. I’m telling myself that maybe it was just supposed to be a special night that you had to be there to appreciate. Yes?

Meetup only lets me have 1,000 characters and this thank you was way over that limit so if you'd like to read the whole thing you can go to our blog here:

I hope to see everyone again on Nov 14th for our next show: Best Laid Plans.

    Take care,

Show was great. Wonderful stories. Hard to see if you were in the back. Great place though. Tim's story was so honest I felt like I was watching a clip of a movie. I hope he turns his stories into a book. He has a gift to share with people.

I don't have the words to describe how I feel about the show tonight. I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who came out and shared their time and stories. The courage and honesty was overwhelming. I'll write more this weekend and give a proper thanks.

Lots of people in the cafe already. Looks like a good night for storytelling! Tonight I'm giving away The World's Greatest Pencil to one lucky storyteller. Also, I just picked up the Scone of Courage for whoever has to go first.

I was going to give out the Muffin of Courage but all they had was poppy seed and I didn't want anyone to worry about seeds in the teeth. You really need a full-on WaterPic to get all those out.

Hope to see everyone at the show tonight!
