Try Duplicate Bridge (perhaps for the first time)

A chance to try duplicate bridge in a friendly atmosphere, ideally suited for first time duplicate bridge players.

This is a repeat of the successful 5-table duplicate bridge introduction we ran here on January 26th. The playing group then was a mixture of improvers and recent learners, players from this Meet Up group and a sprinkling of more experienced players who helped ensure that it all ran smoothly. The newer players learnt a lot and the more experienced players enjoyed sharing their experience. It all worked really well and Tim and Oana at St John's Wood Bridge Club were ideal hosts, ensuring everyone felt welcome.

To play on Sunday afternoon, you don't need to be advanced - just reasonably familiar with basic bidding. So I hope to see as many of you as would like to come along. SJWBC is a full time bridge club, so there will be a fee payable for this session - £8pp but that will include tea/coffee and cake. Stronger refreshments are available if required!

You will play as a pair throughout, but single players are welcome and will be paired up and everyone is guaranteed a game. We aim to play around 15-18 boards. If these sessions gain momemtum I would aim to run them approximately one Sunday afternoon a month, so if you can't make this one there will be other opportunities.

The venue is close to St John's Wood Jubilee Line station and street parking is unrestricted on Sundays. Hope to see you!

I have written a report and emailed it out to thsoe whose direct emails I have. PM me if you want to go on the list. It included a short summary of how duplicate bridge scores are calculated.

Thanks all. We had 30 people come (yes 30!) and Tim and Oana looked after us well. Results are online at www.bridgewebs.com/bridgewithned. We hope to repeat this soon, watch this space!

Great experience, but some of the experts seemed a trifle impatient and one was plain rude

The rude one was no expert and will not be invited again. Thanks Dan & Marcia for coming.

Is anyone planning on lunching there I see that they have facilities but no hours are posted? If not I'll use Wetherspoon's Metropolitan next to Baker St tube if anyone wants to join me just say. M

I'm thinking 16-20 rather than 8. Word is out in other ways than just through this Meet Up group.

I have now got at least a dozen confirmed with a few days to go.

Ned has pretty much taught me everything I know about bridge. If you are ready to learn something then there is no-one really like him, in London at least, to bring out the best in you. And he understands the importance of CAKE.
