Meditation Walk - Time to get Active

Start your year with a healthy goal.  Get out and get some exercise while practicing inner peace in meditation.  You all asked for shorter walks so here is your opportunity to join us in a weekly exercise and practicing meditation while listening to the running waters of San Juan rapids on the American River.

We will start our walk weekly on Sundays at Bannister Park at 9:15 am. We will walk approximately 3/4 mile to San Juan rapids where we will sit in silence for 10 to 15 minutes in meditation.  Bring something to sit on during the meditation. This will help bring some inner peace into hectic lives we live. Exercise and continued meditation practice is key to a calming and peaceful life.  During this silence we will practice being in the present moment.  If your mind wanders, we will practice listening to our surroundings and use those sounds to bring you back into the present moment.  This is mindfulness meditation.  We are always aware of our surroundings but we practice calming our thoughts.

After the meditation you can either walk back to Bannister Park for a total of 1 1/2 miles walked, or walk any part of the Bannister Park river area for up to approximately 5 miles.  The choice is yours.  The more often you come the farther you can walk each week.  Use this weekly walk to build up your tolerances for longer walks and a healthier life style. Each week some may choose to return directly to the park and some may choose to walk more.  Please choose your preferred distance before we start our walk each week.

 

For those of you that would like to join us before the walk for a meeting, we will meet at Attitude Adjustment meeting in Fair Oaks Village Community Center at 7:55 am.  The meeting is from 8:00 to 9:00 am.  We will drive to Bannister Park after the meeting.

Things to bring; Good walking shoes, plenty of water, weather appropriate comfortable clothes, a sitting mat or towel to sit on during meditation and snacks and/or electrolytes.
