Sunday, August 17, 9am - Training Ride 1 - 20 miles - Longest Ride EVER!

We'll meet at the Courtyard Cafe, by the fountain in the Bell Tower Shops, for coffee and relaxed conversation. We'll depart after 45 minutes or so and ride the Yarborough Linear Park to Colonial, to Treeline, then Daniel's Parkway back to the Bell Tower - something in the general range of 20 miles. The pace will be casual - around the same 14 MPH planned for October 5th's "Longest Ride EVER!"

I will host progressively longer rides at two week intervals in the run up to the October 5th Main Event. Check the calendar for details.

NOTE: This is part of a series of (generally) weekly Coffee - Conversation - Fitness - Exploration events that I host regularly. Stay tuned for more.

Thanks again to all you adventurous souls who came out. Nice day, pleasant ride, good company. Not a bad way to spend a day...

It was a nice, helmet-free ride for me. Thanks again! Will wait for the other ones.

On my way. B.T. is right near my hood, so I will be peddling also.

Hmm, I haven't decided if I will wear my helmet or not. I haven't ridden for sport in awhile (only for basic transportation). I guess I will decide on Sunday. It should be a surprise. I plan on riding to the site since I only live 1.5 miles from Bell Tower.

keep in mind that recently the local ABC weatherman had no helmet when he bumped the curb on Metro and died because he hit his head at about 3-5 mph (maybe). A helmet would have saved his life, period. Your helmet should be on at all times on a bike, because you cannot tell when you may get into an accident, thats why they're called accidents, unplanned events.

Hi, Jodi. Like Joannie said, you can take the front wheel off. After that, your bike should fit inside a normal-sized sedan. It should be a snap if you have V-brakes. Just make sure you have something to protect your seats from the chain's oil.

Does anyone live in the Cape? I am between bike carriers right now and need a way to get my bike to Fort Myers.....

Jodi - Unfortunately, I live in Ft. Myers and not the cape but I've transported a bike before in the back seat of a car. I took off the front wheel and was able to load my bike. Maybe that could work???? :)

Thanks, Donald. I have one; I just don't like wearing them. I've seen groups require riders to wear helmets. Just checking. I look forward to it—thanks!

This sounds great! Do I have to wear a helmet? If I get killed, it's my fault. I promise not to sue. I'll assume the risk. Besides, I have a hard head anyway. Will these always be on Sundays?

The law says no, you're not required to wear a helmet, unless you're a child under 16 y.o.a. Never a bad idea, though. The training rides are going to alternate between Saturdays and Sundays, in the run-up to the LRE on Sunday, Oct. 5.
