Halloween Bash!

UPDATE, OCTOBER 25:

Parking is available directly across the street from Evviva in the Lisle train commuter parking Lot D (you can find a PDF of the map at the link posted below). If that lot fills up you can park on the other side of the tracks in the big lots on Burlington Avenue. No permit or payment is required. Only stipulations are that you have to be out by 2 a.m. and you shouldn't back into a spot.

UPDATE, OCTOBER 11:

Hello Everyone!

The time is fast approaching for the Halloween Bash on the 26th.  Hope you all have your costumes planned, because Evviva is giving out prizes for best costumes!

Just a few important things to note about this event:

• Remove duplicate RSVPs/RSVP in only one group, please. In order for us to count the attendance accurately, we are asking people to RSVP in only one group.  If you are RSVP'd in more than one of our groups already, please check those sites and remove any duplicate RSVPs now.  If the organizers find duplicate RSVPs and remove them, you run the risk of being removed from the event altogether and not being able to attend if the event closes or if we hit the RSVP limit.

• If you cannot make the event, remove your RSVP as soon as possible.  There are three groups attending this together--ours, Fox Valley 30s and 40s Singles and Suburban Singles Solution.  Each group has an RSVP limit because the restaurant can handle only so many people.  Therefore, we not only need to give Evviva as accurate an RSVP number as possible, but if any of the groups reaches its RSVP limit and has a waiting list, those on the list deserve the chance to get ample notice that they can go.  Please be courteous and change your RSVP if you are not planning to attend.

• Don't no-show!!! If you can't go, update your RSVP.  Even though this is not a sit-down dinner event, keep in mind that we still do need to coordinate with the restaurant managers.  When we show up with significantly fewer people than what we promised, it makes the groups look bad and restaurants are less likely to work with us in the future.

• Be on time! Evviva does have a capacity limit of 160, and with our three groups going we expect a large turnout.  Therefore, once the restaurant reaches capacity, managers will stop letting people in.  We planned the event to start at 8 p.m. so that our groups can get in.  Please be there as close to 8 p.m. as possible.  The later it gets, the less likely you might be to get in.  We cannot predict the crowds other than ours that will attend, so don't literally get left out in the cold.

Thanks for your cooperation on these points, as this will help make this a fun event for all involved.

Donna, Joel and Naomi

________________________________________________________________________

It's time to finally announce the details for our Annual Halloween Bash! Last year, we went on a ghoulish Train Pub Crawl with Joel's Fox Valley 30s and 40s group, and this year we have been invited to join this fun bunch of people again to dance the night away at Evviva.

Those of us who went to the Train Crawl last year remember that Evviva had great pizza, an awesome DJ, and a spacious dance floor to shake it loose.

Joel is in the process of working with Matt, who is the events manager at Evviva, to post all of the specials and fun things they are going to have that night. Once again, they'll have their Costume Contest where they hand out cash prizes for 1st to 3rd places. The staff at Evviva are all going to be wearing "Super Hero" costumes.

So, go find a great costume, dust off your dancing shoes, and join us for what is sure to be a fun-filled evening full of laughs and outrageous Halloween get-ups!

Thanks to everyone for coming out and making this such a fun time! Loved all your costumes! In fact, I didn't recognize a few people! Thanks, too, to Joel (for coming up with the venue and coordinating with Evviva) and his Fox Valley group and Naomi and her Suburban Singles group for joining us. Also, thanks to everyone who took and posted photos--they are great!!

I will have three Meetup signs taped together and a couple of tables. The Meetup signs will say "Fox Valley Area 30s & 40s Singles (Joel), Woodridge, Lisle, DG 30s & 40s Socials (Donna), and Suburban Singles Solutions (Naomi). Look for those signs and you'll find our groups.

    No cover charge.

Doing Zombies have to sign up to go?

    October 23, 2013

    • Gerry

7.) Related to number 5: Zombies aren’t threatened by your work successes, have commitment issues or whine about your needy friends. They’re just happy you’re alive. 8.) Got enemies? Are they alive? Not anymore. 9.) Sick of wondering if last night’s date will call? Zombies are pursuers. You won’t have to wonder if he/she is interested. 10.) Zombies are inspiring. They know what they want and they do what it takes to get it. 11.) Dating a zombie is dangerous — but bad boys or girls are sexy, right? 12.) Zombies are trendy. They currently have more street cred than vampires. 13.) Dinner is easy – just add brains to the ingredient list and you are good to go.

Thanks for enlightening us Gerry. Funny. Where do we go online to find a mummy date? Eatup.com? You mean I have been doing this dating thing wrong all these years???

      October 25, 2013

  • Donna

Hope you all have your craziest costumes ready! As a reminder, if you are already signed up on either Joel's Fox Valley or Naomi's Suburban Singles group, please remove your RSVP from this site. We are asking that everyone RSVP in only one group so we have the most accurate count possible. The organizers have been removing duplicate RSVPs, so if you got a message that says you are not going, that is why. But, keep in mind that if you don't remove a duplicate RSVP yourself, you run the risk of the organizers accidentally removing you from all sites and you won't have a spot at all if we reach our limits. Thanks for your cooperation.

Please RSVP in only one of the groups so that we don't have duplicate RSVPs. We have a limit in each group and we need to have an accurate attendance count. Don't be a no-show either! Be courteous and remove your RSVP if you cannot make it. Joel has spent a lot of time setting up this great event for all of us so have respect for that and commit to the event or cancel appropriately.

Most likely a no at this time - opening up spot for someone else.

    October 8, 2013

  • Joel

I just placed a RSVP limit of 45 on the Group due to capacity challenges at Evviva. Please do not No-Show as our reputation is on the line with Evviva, not to mention their ability to fund the event...

Donna - I don't know if this is way to far for everyone but Elgin has this zombie apocalypse thing they do. They shut down a couple of blocks and zombie it - bar crawl and bands ? I know the casino is in walking distance too..
