Our mission is to backpack, survey the whole Pow Wow Hiking Trail. BWAC crew was the only known group to backpack the entire trail last year. For some, hiking through charred landscape was a life altering experience. This year, we will monitor how the forest is coming back while exploring wilderness values.
The trip will begin Friday morning (8:00 am). After 5 hrs drive we should reach trailhead (north from Isabella) about 1:00 pm. Marathon Lake campsite (5.5 mile from trailhead) is our Friday destination. Saturday we will reach Horseshoe Lake campsite after 10 miles of hiking. Sunday we will cover 9 miles to trail junction. Last day Monday after short 3 miles hike we will reach trailhead.
Level of difficulty: Participants need to be in very good physical condition and be able to tolerate variable temps and inclement weather on a 10 - 12 hour outing.
You will need good hiking boots, gaiters and all essential backpacking gear. some gear (stove, water filter) will be shared. Participants should be available for pretrip meeting (TBD).
Registration includes a maps of the Pow Wow Trail and club T-shirt (subject to availability). Participants are responsible for cost of car pooling and food.
