  • Our mission is to backpack survey and maintain the West Kekekabic and Old Pines Hiking Trails. You will gain experience in environment assessment, self and group awareness, developing empathy and in group dynamics.

The trip will begin Friday morning (6:30 am) The carpool location is TBD. After a 4 hour drive we will reach trailhead (23 miles east from Ely) about 12:00 pm

We will backpack in eastern direction and after 10 miles we will reach Medas Lake campsite. Our second option is nearby (less then half a mile) Moiyaka Lake campsite. Both campsites are the most beautifull campsites in BWCAW.

Saturday we leave our tents on campsite and we will do day hike and maintenance of Old Pines Trail. Total distance up to 9 miles.

Sunday we will back pack back back to the trailhead parking after 10 miles of hiking.

Total length is about 29 miles.

Level of difficulty: Participants need to be in very good physical condition and be able to tolerate variable temps and inclement weather on a 10 - 12 hour per day of hiking. We may encounter rain, sleet, snow or even sunshine.

You will need good hiking boots, gaiters and all essential backpacking and camping gear.

Some gear (ie. stove, water filter) will be shared. Participants should be available for pre-trip meeting (TBD).

Registration includes a map of the trail and Snowbank Lake area. Participants are responsible for car pooling costs and food.
