Sioux Hustler Trail - Camping on Range Line Lake just before a storm
Sioux Hustler Trail in the BWCA is unique in a way that it has not been impacted by wilderness fires, major windstorms and it remains a window into what BWCA looked like 30-40 years ago. As a member of a BWAC crew that backpacked the SxHT three years ago I was impressed and stunned with the beauty of this trail, its exposed bedrock, ancient rocks lining the path and ever changing and breath taking scenery. I backpacked the trail once before about 35 years ago and I was surprised I much it stands out now that rest of the long distance trails were wounded by either fire or windstorms: Snowbank, Kek, Border Route and in Pagami Creek Fire, the Pow Wow Trail. Yet this trail was almost not to be. In 1992 the USFS almost closed down the trail and again considered doing the same several years ago. Come and see the photos, hear the story of trail advocacy, get tips on where to camp (the only BWCA trail where you can actually camp 150 feet of the trail!) and get advice (do you really need advice?) how to enjoy our great Boundary Waters! I will have maps on hand as well as light weight gear. Contact Martin Kubik [masked]
