    Good afternoon Esperanza,
Yes, the gate will be open for late arrivals. Please contact Chris Christensen the site manager as to your intentions. There is one designated primitive campground and designated camping areas. The campsites have either a pedestal firebox or a fire ring and table. Due to environmental sensitivity, please do not camp or park vehicle on vegetation, there is one Dempsey dumpster for the Calico site, bring garbage bags and fire wood (Pallets are not accepted)

Camping areas are designated for RV's and portable generator operation and separated from tent campers to prevent hazardous fumes

There is a single, very nice vault toilet for all. As per Bureau of Land Management RV's and other recreation trailers must be self-sufficient including toilets, porta potty's qualify. Welcome and enjoy

Hi everyone! On Sunday after breakfast, our local historian, author and First-Year Calico crew member, Cliff Walker will be leading a picnic to a nearby site in the Mojave. If you'd like to join the group - please be here by 8:30 am (7:30 am if you're planning to gave breakfast with us first!) and bring a sack lunch. You'll need sturdy walking shoes, water and gas in your car (unless you are carpooling with someone else). In April we visited Schuiling Cave and had lunch at Newberry Springs Park. It was a beautiful day, and May is shaping up to be just as nice!

I will be leaving Friday after work which means I will be arriving very late at night. Is it possible to have the
gate open for my tent camping? Thank you.

Hello Rebekah; sounds like a bit of dilemma, there are several Redlands area members of Friends of Calico. Some commute, some camp on site, and others stay in Motels in Barstow or at the Oak Tree Inn. It is a predicated on how self-sustaining one is.

Please view the photo folder in the photo section of this meetup site regarding clothing and equipment recommended and "Be Prepared"

Well Dan, at this time I think I'll be staying at the motel 6, I'm looking to see if where I can find money for the amtrak ticket to Barstow. I'll be bringing my Camera and would like to know if it would be all right with everyone if I film the Dig. I left a message for Claire Marie at the Newspaper to see if she (she being the Chieif Editor of the Newsmirror...)

      April 27, 2014

    • Rebekah

      April 27, 2014

  • Rebekah

But I will get there some way... just, don't know how yet?...

    April 26, 2014

  • Rebekah

Well, I hate to as u me anything... So, I'll just say that if I to take amtrak to Barstow (I hope I don't...) is there anyone else who is going to stay at a lodging that I catch a ride with to the digs?

    April 26, 2014

  • Esperanza H.

    Rebekah,
Where do you live? I live in Soledad. It is close to Monterey.

    • Rebekah

Which way would you be going to Calico? I'm strait off of the 10 fwy in Yucaipa.

      April 25, 2014

    • Rebekah

Hey, I'll help anyone with gas!

      April 26, 2014

  • Rebekah

So, is there any one of you I can hitch a ride with to the dig in May?

    1 · April 24, 2014

  • Rebekah

At this time I find in the bainful state of being care free! Yikes! This is malady that I believe I should be.finding a.cure for once I apply for and get a minority business grant! I am after all (and before all) a Native American! I have also been doing what seems quite impossible & ridiculous with startling a business, going to school & dealing with PTSD while existing on Social Security Survivors Benafits! Therefore I fall into 2 & perhaps 3 (if Women Business owners are still considered a minority) minority groups.

Hey, just a thinking, how about doing fundraising at Crafton hills College? I have a business license, a resale permit & I think I know a club that might sponsor an event... Furthermore, once I become a student I/we can get a C.H.C., club going...

    April 23, 2014

    • Claude

Hey Rebekah! That sounds great! We can talk more about it at the dig in May. BTW- to answer your message to me, I don't live in Redlands. I'm in Yucca Valley so I won't be able to help with a ride. You can post a message on this forum and see if someone else is coming out from that area.

You have a great opportunity to make a difference, the three "T"s for success of a non-profit organization is time, talent and treasury! Your time is most important, your talent is necessary and then there is treasury. None of our 4 member staff are full-time paid employees the rest are all volunteers which is wonderful, but the expenses continue and with the increase in participation, continue raise.

Currently we are conducting a fund raising campaign and your donations will certainly "Make a difference" Income tax season is upon us and now is a great time to donate, please consider a donation. Thank you
