After turning off Hwy.#1/Shoreline Hwy. onto Panoramic Hwy., follow this road for about eight miles to the top where Pantoll Ranger Station is on the left and to the right is Pantoll Rd., follow Pantoll Rd.(right turn) for three miles into the Rock Spring parking lot.
Karl Baeck, Friend of Mt.Tam and a State Park Volunteer Hike Leader, will be leading a brisk hike today of about 6-7 miles, with about a 1000' elevation gain.
It's the middle of Spring and this area is alive with wildflowers. If it's a warm, sunny day it will be like paradise in a sea of colorful flowers against a backdrop of the Pacific to the west and redwoods and giant firs to the east. No wonder Ridgecrest Blvd. is the most used road in the USA for filming car commercials. But let's walk today.
Pack a lunch and plenty of drinking water. You really need mid to high hiking boots to handle the rocky root covered Mt.Tam trails. Your feet will thank you for wearing those boots. A hiking stick can help too. You are in one of the most photogenic places with beautiful light reflecting off the Pacific and coming through clear dry air. So snap a few pictures to remember the day and share with friends. After the hike look back here under comments for some photos of the day and a link to the GPS track of today's hike, with all the stats of your hiking outing.
