Lower Forbidden Drive with Sarah West

This hike is about one mile along lower Forbidden Drive on level ground as far as the Walnut Lane Bridge.  We’ll look at two historical sites connected to the Revolutionary War era including the Henry Rittenhouse mill foundation.  We’ll see the Blue Stone Bridge that in 1898 replaced one of 5 former covered bridges across the creek.  We’ll see the foundation of the Lotus Inn, one of the last of the Wissahickon road houses and discuss the history of the Wissahickon Turnpike and Forbidden Drive.  And we’ll talk about the construction of the Walnut Lane bridge [masked]).

To register for this hike, click here.

Registration is required, and always recommended so that you can informed if there are changes. Unless otherwise noted, hikes use rocky, rugged trails that may be wet, slippery, or steep.  Please wear sturdy, protective shoes or boots and bring water/snacks if you desire. Long pants are recommended for protection against occasional poison ivy and possible ticks. Children over the age of seven are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult. Walks are cancelled in the event of heavy rain or ice.

Hi Karen, this hike was listed for the wrong time. I apologize for the mix up! It begins at 3:00 PM and ends at 4:45 PM, so it will still be light out when it is finished. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience.
