Geology Hike with Sarah West

This hike covers about a 1.5 miles along a rough, steep trail on the east side of the creek upstream from Valley Green. It can be slippery or muddy in places. We’ll discuss the likely formation of Wissahickon rocks as the result of plate tectonics and identify several different types. This hike is suitable for children over 10 accompanied by a responsible adult. Please bring water and sturdy footwear. For more information contact [masked].

Registration is recommended for all hikes so that you can be informed of weather or other emergency cancellations. Unless otherwise specified Trail Ambassador hikes may use rocky, rugged trails that may be wet and slippery. Please wear sturdy shoes or boots with socks. Long pants are recommended for protection against occasional poison ivy and possible ticks. Bring water and a snack if desired. Unless otherwise noted, children over 7 are welcome if accompanied by a responsible adult. Walks are cancelled in heavy rain or icy conditions.

Any spots left for another geologist? I could certainly just stay out of the way.

Any chance we can expand the group to 12? Two ardent Wissahickon fans who have always wanted to know more about the geology of the valley stand ready.

Sounds like a great opportunity but I will be at a wedding that day...oh well. I'd love to learn more about the schist and mica and that jazz another time. Hopefully another one of these hikes pops up. Thanks Sarah!
