Frisco Saturday Morning Wire Working Group Meetup

  • September 21, 2013 · 1:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

We will reconvene for this project in September.

We will be wire wrapping this month.  Creating a frame and "sewing" beads to it to create an interesting pendant.  An example of what can be done is here.  I will try to add other examples before we meet.  This tear drop or a circle are the easiest forms, but others may be chosen such as tree and star or heart forms, even a cross.

Materials needed:

16 gauge round wire

24 gauge wire to "Sew" with

An assortment of beads to sew onto the frame. (from the example you can see that I used metal, crystal, and turquoise beads in many sizes and shapes, so let your imagination be your guide)

Tools:  Members must bring their own tools, please remember to label them as so many look alike.

Round, and chain-nose pliers

Flat and Nylon-nose pliers are nice but optional.

Ruler, painter's tape and fine Sharpie

A bead mat is also helpful to keep everything in place

NOTE: We have changed our meeting date to the 3rd Saturday each month at 1PM since we have some members who work on Saturday morning. It will be 1 to 4 PM. We looked at several possible projects.

Great group, great fun! Join Us Soon.......

Please post materials list and picture .

A picture and materials and tools lists are on the meetup announcement at the top of this string of messages. Big hole beads are not necessary and the wire used for "sewing" the beads to the frame is 24g, quite thin.

I will have to find my wire wrapping supplies. If I don't have the right size etc. where do I pick up more ???and how much do I need???. Beads are defiantly not a problem but sometimes no matter how many you have you need more.

    September 16, 2013

    • Joanne M.

Jannette I have enough wire. You need big hole spacers and beads..

      September 17, 2013

    • Dot S.

With 24 ga wire no need for big hole spacers and beads. You can find wire at JoAnn's, Michaels, maybe hobby Lobby, you just need 16 & 24 ga wire. Whatever they have in a package is enough wire. I don't think you need a lot of wire for this project.

How come there r two houses to go to for this group?

    September 14, 2013

    • Jeanette O.

Jamie, we used to meet at Susan Meaux's home in Frisco, thus the name. However, Susan moved to Orlando and Charlotte and I (Jeanette) agreed to co-host the group. Charlotte has graciously opened her home for the meetings prior to this month while I was waiting to find a new home (our lease had run out on the old one). Now that I've moved into a new place and have the room for the group to work we will be splitting meet-ups between our homes. It is a much nicer and more affordable way to get together in one of our homes rather than having the added expense of leasing space and passing that cost onto all the members.

I am kind of nervous to join a group at a house that I have never been before or don't know anybody. I am usually very friendly. but my husband and I moved here and I don't know but one or two people. I am hoping this is a chance for me to meet and talk to friends.

Thank you Betty I am going to be there. Do I need to bring anything besides my material?

      September 11, 2013

    • Jeanette O.

Jamie - just your materials and tools. I look forward to welcoming you to my new home and especially to our group.

  • Jeanette O.

Hi everyone!!! I'm looking forward to the 21st, glad to be feeling better and having the first meetup in my new home.
Jamie, can't wait to meet you and just bring yourself and your supplies. Betty thank you so much for making Jamie feel welcome before she even meets us. Jilly, your skills will bloom with this group and we love just the creative buzz that permeates the room when we get together.
Charlotte and EJ, again thank you so much for keeping us going last month!! I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to meet our new members and look forward to getting to know then in a week or so.
Right now we have 13 RSVP's and I don't quite have enough chairs, so if anyone is able to bring their own folding chair please let me know. I have 4 folding and 4 dining room chairs currently and I'll go out and buy the rest if I need to, but I'd like to put the expense off another month if I can.
Everyone be safe till then! Call or email if you have a question.

    • Betty L.

Joanne, you will know you've become Southern when you say you're "fixin to go to the store" and really mean it!

      1 · August 19, 2013

  • Dot S.

I probably can go on 8/24/13 or it can be moved to next month, will do whatever the group wants to do.

    August 14, 2013

    • Dot S.

Sorry, had a computer virus on my computer and had to call a computer guy to fix it, unfortunately I couldn't get to the computer to RSVP for this, and the person fixing it came at 1pm on Sat to do this.

      August 18, 2013

    • Betty L.

Glad you were able to get your computer fixed. Viruses are the absolute worst!!

Douglas - I gave you TWO minutes to prove yourself, and you did it in under 30 seconds!! You are such a great addition to our group!
Joanne - We'll make a Southern Girl out of you yet! You're coming along nicely!! ;-)
To everybody that came - it was the most fun meetup of all times! I love how we learn from each other - and laugh a lot while we're doing it!

I am sorry about the confusion. Please note that there is a project scheduled for 8/17 at Charlotte's house and you need to RSVP today if you plan to attend. It is for a "junk drawer bracelet" and incorporates beads and findings. Quite original and organic looking. The pendant project has been moved to 9/21 and your RSVP is still valid for that project. If you cannot make the 9/21 meetup you will need to change your RSVP. I look forward to feeling better and showing everyone how to do this in September. - Jeanette

    August 16, 2013

  • Patricia F.

My guest and I cannot attend on the 24th - but will be able to come to the September meeting.

    August 15, 2013

    • Jeanette O.

Pat, we are moving the program to the Sept meetup, and have an alternate project for the 8/17 date that will be at Charlotte's house. It is a bracelet project that allows you to use misc beads and findings to create a unique look. If you and your friend would like to go just Rsvp. Your RSVP is still in place for the pendant project on 9/21. - Jeanette

      August 16, 2013

  • Betty L.

I'm confused - is the meeting for August 16 postponed to September? Please clarify. Thanks!!

    August 15, 2013

    • Jeanette O.

Yes Betty, the "original" program for 8/17 has been moved to September. However there will still be a meetup on 8/17 at Charlotte's house where we will be making "Junk Drawer" bracelets. This used odd beads you may have and other materials as well. Charlotte posted some pictures in the photo section. I'm sorry for all the confusion.

Jeanette, I just saw this! So very sorry about the dental problems.
If it would help, we can have one more meeting here. E.J. and I have a bracelet project we could do. Your call - just let me know whatever I can do to help.
    Fell better!

Not sure I can make it this Sat but I have lots of beads of semi-precious gems. If I can make it, I will bring extras in case someone wants any. They are very low cost. Do I need to bring silver and/or gold thread? (and what sizes)

    August 11, 2013

    • Jeanette O.

The supply list calls for 16g and 24g wire, not thread. You are welcome to substitute if you wish though. Hope you can make it, I look forward to meeting you and see what you have in gems.

      August 13, 2013

  • Rhonda

Something has come up and I will not be able to attend. See everyone next month.

So sorry to say I will be moved to Orlando by then. Think of me and have lots of fun. Hope to visit sometime when in area at right time.
