Frisco Saturday Morning Wire Working Group Meetup

Forgot to include caliper on Tools list. Bring if you have. Harbor Freight has a coupon where you can buy a digital caliper for $9.99 with coupon. I have one but if you have bring. Also if you have bracelet mandrel bring. I have a round one but no oval so if you have oval bracelet mandrel bring it.

Added new photos of possible outcomes from this meetup here: http://www.meetup.com/Frisco-Jewelry-Making-Group/photos/#[masked]

which is in the photo section under March Album.

We had a couple of last minute cancellations so if it was full when you tried to sign-up it is open now. Last chance to sign-up today.

Fold Forming and Cold Connections
We will be doing some minor fold forming to create either a bangle , cuff or pendant. The fold forming will be organic in nature. The project choice is yours (one choice per member) here are the choices:

  • Project 1 Bangle bracelet with flower
  • Project 2 Free Form folds riveted to textured cuff
  • Project 3 a riveted free form fold riveted to a sheet metal pendant

I have decided since we have so much equipment needed for this project that it will be easier to have the meetup at my home instead of elsewhere. So meetup is at 6908 Sugartree Ln. Frisco TX. Go north from HWY 121 on Main Street in The Colony (Josey Lane if you go south) which is also HWY 423. We are north of The Colony and south of Little Elm between Lebanon and Main St. in Frisco.

I ordered miniature nuts and bolts and if they arrive in time I will give each member one set to include in their project if they wish. You will see examples of this at the meetup. It is another type of cold connection.

Materials Needed:
26 to 30 g sheet metal color of choice (thinner is better because will anneal faster for this project)

14 g wire color of choice or brass or copper tacks for rivets

22g, 24g, or 20g wire for lacing if want to decorate with beads

Metal Rivet tubing color of choice (get at hardware store)

Beads if you wish to lace on beads for this project.

Tools Needed:
Vise
Hammers (rawhide, chasing, texture)
Steel Block
Pliers- round, flat, chain nose
Flush Cutter
Metal Shears
Various files (the kind from beauty supply are great) also small files
Flat blade of some kind (like a butter knife)
Ruler & Marker

Since I will be moving to Louisiana our group will need new leaders. I have asked Jeanette and Charlotte to take over once I leave. Until my house sells I will still be leading the group. Keep in touch because locations can change at the last minute since my house if on the market for sale.

Great group, great fun! Join Us Soon.......

Susan- I don't have sheet metal or metal tubing and don't have time to get any. I don't have 14 guage wire either. Do you have kits available?

    March 13, 2013

    • Susan M.

Gale kits are available for $10. I need to know which item you want to make 1_the bangle with flower, 2_the cuff, or 3-a pendant. Please email me susan@web boss.com to tell me which project.

I'm good a confusing everyone. We have 2 set activities. The one on the 16th is our regular meetup but the cost is $8 instead of $5 because of the supplies needed to do the project which I supply. (torches, fuel, & pickle) The other supplies must be brought by the members. See notes for materials and equipment needed on the meetup.

The one this Saturday is a class where we will learn to make the Spinner Ring and the cost for that class is $65 which supplies everything needed to complete the project.

    March 5, 2013

  • Gale R.

I guess I'm confused. Yes, I'll come on the 16th but not the 9th.

    March 5, 2013

  • Susan M.

Due to rise in fuel cost for annealing I have to raise the cost of any meetup that uses the torch and pickle. So this meetup will cost $8 instead of $5. Please make sure you remember that when using fire cost is $8.
