All the Trails of Horsetooth: Part 3 of 4

Horsetooth Mountain Open Space has over 29 miles of trails!

Four hikes.  Four days.  Be a Horsetooth expert.

This is the second in a series of four Saturday hikes.

Last May, we noticed that we had been to Horsetooth Rock about a million times, the Falls a few times, and maybe once down Nomad to get to Lory State Park. But there are miles and miles of trails to be explored in this, our gorgeous backdoor park. So we resolved to walk them all.

Turns out it's impossible to only walk 29 miles to cover the 29 miles of trails.  But we came up with just four loops (about 40 miles total) to cover everything except Nomad (which parallels Shoreline) and the last bit of Mill Creek which connects to Lory St. Park.

During these hikes last May we discovered wonderful parts of the park we'd never even imagined and at a gorgeous green and lush time of year. We can't wait to repeat the experience this year!

PLEASE NOTE:

• This is not your typical Horsetooth hike up to the rock and back. It is over ten miles with considerable elevation gain. We will be travelling in a loop so everyone needs to stay together on this hike--so if you feel comfortable keeping a moderate pace for ten miles then this is a hike for you.

I'm going to blame it all on Camille. Even if it's not true, everyone will believe it. ;)

Conversations on the trail: Camille: "those green beans look really good Christina, are they blanched?" Christina: "I don't know Kevin cooked them--blanched--what's blanched? I thought that was the name of a women!"
You guys are hilarious!! You make me laugh!

    Hey friends,

Tomorrow's weather forecast is looking good for our hike. The temps will be in the low to mid-40's at the beginning of the hike, warming into the 60's throughout the morning and early afternoon. The rain and colder temperatures are not forecasted until later in the afternoon/evening, after our hike is over. Please double-check the weather tomorrow morning to make sure the forecast is still the same.

If your plans have changed and you're NOT coming tomorrow, now is the time to update your RSVP to "Not Attending."

    See you all tomorrow,
    Christina

Dang. I have to work on getting house ready to sell, paint, pack, etc, all that day. I would MUCH rather be hiking, believe me. Some other lucky duck can take my spot.

Just FYI: Saturday is the Quad Rock 25 mile & 50 mile trail race (running). The race starts in Lory and goes through Horsetooth before heading back to Lory to complete the 25 mile loop. The folks running the 50 mile race will do the loop twice. Yes the trails are open to everyone, just be on the watch for the 300 or so runners.

    Enjoy your hike.

That's a worthy reason to miss the hike- both the soccer part and the grand-daughter part! Have a great time.
