Our next regular meeting is April 16, 2014, starting at 6:30. This month, we have two speakers and two topics.
Xander Guzman will be presenting "Scaling your Applications with Asynchronous Tasks":
As developers we’re often reach that point where we have long running blocking scripts that have to run, whether it be to send out e-mail notifications, executes a cron task, or just a long algorithmic method. Tasks like these can cause server performance issues and cause your users to believe that your site is non-responsive.
In this talk we will learn how to bring RabbitMQ, the Python task/worker framework, and Rhubarb a PHP Celery API together so that we can queue up these asynchronous tasks and please everyone from the sysops people to the end-user.
Sometime between now and the meeting, Xander will have instructions on getting a vagrant machine up and running to follow along with the code.
Xander is a Senior Engineer at Synacore.
Next, Chris Klette will present on "Intro to BDD", that is "Behavior-Driven Design w/ Behat".
Got a million unit tests and 100% code coverage but still not sure if your code meets requirements? Starting a new project and want to use a test driven approach but you have no idea where to start? Then try Behat, A powerful tool that can turn your user stories into actual tests!
Chris Klette is a senior web developer for Politico.
We will have food and drink so please RSVP on the meetup.com page.
I hope you'll join us and I look forward to seeing you at our next meeting
