Exploring Javascript MVC Frameworks! (backbone.js, ember.js)

Building a one-page web application, or a web or mobile application which, at the least, uses Javascript? Is your codebase have more spaghetti code like that the Italian restaurant scene from Lady & the Tramp? There is a better way to build large scale Javascript applications, and we'd like you to start thinking about them.

Come join us for November's FEDM meeting as we talk about Javascript MVC frameworks, such as backbone.js (http://backbonejs.org/) or ember.js (http://emberjs.com/). Mauricia Ragland, one of the co-organizers of FEDM will keep off the discussion, but we can use your help!

  • Do you have a demo of a project that uses a JS MVC framework such as backbone.js or ember.js AND would like to demo the project? Or do you swear by a development tool or coding methodology that has made your life a million times easier AND you want to share this with the group? We are looking for additional speakers and could use your help. (If you have suggestions on who would be a great speaker, please reach out to the organizers of FEDM to let them know as well.)

  • If Javascript MVC frameworks do NOT interest you, what would you prefer as a future upcoming topic?

See you there!

Net Tuts just released a new series on backbone.js that looks promising. It's a premium series, but they were nice enough to make the first eight lessons free. Let me know if it's any good - http://net.tutsplus.com/tutorials/javascript-ajax/get-connected-to-the-backbone-new-course/

Just came across this video about Lo_dash, an Underscore fork by John Dalton: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpPy4f_SeEk looks like that is where Backbone is headed.

The video was set to private for me, but for anyone else try http://lodash.com/ instead.

Yep, looks like they made it private until it's "officially" released by the conference. o_O Either way, Lo-Dash, check it: http://lodash.com/

Great topic, but it would have been good to focus a little less on the code itself and more on the general concepts, strengths and weakness that each framework / library brings to the table.

    Hi everyone,

Due to situations out of our control, we have to re-schedule the Meet-Up for the MVC Javascript talk from Monday, November 12th to Tuesday, November 13th. The venue will now be at O Cinema, in Wynwood. (Link: http://www.o-cinema.o... , click on Maps & Directions tab.) The event will begin at the same time, 7pm.

Special thanks to O Cinema for being accommodating to the last minute change, and we'd like to personally apologize for any inconvenience caused for you due to the rescheduling.
