3rd Annual Fall Westwater Overnighter

Back by popular demand, Front Range Paddlesports Meetup Westwater Fall Classic! We still could use a couple more gear rafts, so if you have a raft and would be willing to carry some gear we need you. We will offer some incentive to make it worth your time. Please contact me (Kerry) to find out about that. Or if you have a raft that you would like to run as a paddle raft, we could also use you. We'll meet at the Westwater Ranger station at 8:00 am on Sunday, September 26. Many of us will camp there Saturday night. This will be an overnight trip. We will launch Sunday morning, camp overnight and take off at Cisco on Monday, Sept. 27th. You should be prepared for nighttime temps in the 32-45 deg. range and daytime temps in the 60's. But the water will be cold and you should be prepared for that. You should have your own personal gear (PFD, helmut, splash gear or dry gear, dry bag for your camping gear, etc.) or you should find gear to borrow for the weekend. If you're paddling a kayak or canoe, we have gear rafts to help you with your overnight gear. Right now, we have only 2 or 3 spaces for non-paddlers, but if we get more rafts signed up, especially a paddle raft, that could change. Join us for another fun-filled Westwater trip!

One of my favorite parts was watching Gavin run the hole at Skull. It didn't go quite the way he planned it, but he rolled back up to the cheers of the crowd of rafters scouting Skull.

We had a howling good time! Perfect weather. OK, I swam Funnel Falls again and Albert got "Sock-it-To'd", but the trip was otherwise carnage-free. Great food (thanks, Rick). Beautiful Campsite. A canyon coming down to the river formed a notch in the red canyon walls which perfectly framed the Big Dipper for most of the evening. And the canyon walls were lit up by the moonshine long before we could see the moon.

All right, we'll have a small group, but we'll still have fun! Right now we have 1 rafter(Rick), 1 canoeist(Scott), 1 duckyist(duckier?)(me), 2 full-time kayakers(Gavin and Albert), and 1 part-time kayaker, part-time raft passenger(Jeanette). It looks like we should expect highs in the 80's and overnight lows in the 50's, so that should be great!

If anyone is interested in carpooling, let me know. If I drive I could fit 2 or 3 kayaks + my canoe and 3 passengers.

One week before the trip! Does anyone on the trip have any special dietary needs that we need to be aware of as we shop for food?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
