Class II, (III) Deckers for Sunday, August 14

  • Aug 14, 2011 · 10:00 AM
  • The Fort

The South Platte in this section is coming down from previous higher levels, and looks to be a bit lower than it was when we last ran it. See here for beta on the optional class III section called the Chutes:

Most of the run is class II with enough interest to work on eddy turns and peel outs; suitable for whitewater canoes and kayaks equipped with flotation, or inflatable kayaks.

    Excellent day on the water!

The flow was at about 350 cfs, which is as low as I would want to go on this run. It is a great beginner run, for the section we selected, with a little minor class III at the end, enough to spice things up without endangering anyone, and as usual, a stellar cast of characters.

The trip should be about 5-7 miles, and last 3-4 hours. Variables include how much we want to work the river, weather, flow, and of course swims. Some may also elect to do the additional class III Chutes section, a half hour commitment.
