We've seen everything from totally unfair matches (a Camaro versus an Astrovan? Come on!) to shotgun motorcycles and sexy muscle car showdowns. Our favorites are always the jalopies that look like they won't make it home, let alone to the end of the track! There's always a good mix of sports cars, grocery getters, and crotch rockets.
The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a safe alternative to illegal street racing, open to any street-legal vehicle and any licensed driver, on an NHRA-sanctioned quarter-mile drag strip.
Cash Only - Admission is $5 for spectators, or $15 to enter the race as a driver, passenger, or for a restricted area pass. Parking is free. Registration starts at 8pm, spectator gates open at 8:30, and races run from 9pm to 1am. For more info on entering the race, call The Strip at LVMS at (702)[masked] or visit www.LVMS.com. Midnight Mayhem events happen a few times throughout the year. (FYI: May 24 is free admission for anyone with Military ID.)
Bring one unopened bottle of water per person, otherwise outside food and beverages are not allowed in. Concessions are available (at stadium prices) so eat before or risk sneaking a snack past security. Earplugs are recommended! I will bring a few extras if you'd like to donate a dollar to our Meetup (which is also highly recommended! ;-)
Bonus points if you dress in your best drag outfit ... whether you interpret that as glitter and guyliner or rockabilly rebels without a cause is up to you! :-D
Top Gear UK came to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway last series, but that episode was a bit sleepy. I prefer their usual drag races with silly antics and sabotage, lol. I'm not even into cars, but Top Gear UK is one of my favorite TV programmes. <3
