Blinking Man: Rave Bike Parade & Pub Crawl

Blinking Man is a fantastic pub crawl on bikes, where people dress up themselves and their rides, then parade the streets of Downtown, drinking, dancing, mingling, and laughing at everyone's creations.  "Burning Man meets Critical Mass" -

Some people plan all year for this event, adding lights, music, and costume themes to their bikes.  But you've got plenty of time to prep your swag, even on a budget, for example:

a. Your bike's headlamp and rear lights may already have a "blink" setting.
b. Tape on dollar store glow sticks, or battery LED toys.
c. Stuffed animals, cloth or fur, colored duct tape, aluminum foil, or paint.
d. eBay has thousands of cheap LED options from Hong Kong, like battery-powered christmas lights or neon el-wire with battery controllers.  Buy it ready-made, or I know a bit about soldering your own el-wire if you want to swing by for a tutorial.
e. Recycle a Halloween costume or simply wear a fun wig and make-up, or a wacky outfit you never get a chance to wear out in public cuz it's not the right type of event.  This is "the right event" for anything!@#$%
f. Bikes can often be found for $25-75 at Opportunity Village Thrift Store, some Savers, or Broadacres Swap Meet.  Craigslist tends to go around $50-100, but always haggle!  Plus the less you pay, the easier it is to funk it all up with decorations!

BRING: Photo ID. Cash for drinks and food trucks.  If you don't have a bike, you can still come see the parade.  I recommend a silly outfit so you blend in tho.  "No Spectators" means you don't just watch -- you participate!

Map will be published on the Blinking Man Facebook before the event, showing the bike route and bar stops.  The pace is slow like a parade, so don't worry it's not like spin-class cardio.  There will be live DJ's and mingling at each bar stop, and the whole route is maybe a few miles over several hours.

Once we're down there, I'll comment on this page where to find me, so we might gather up the Meetup folks, otherwise use this as a chance to make a whole new set of cool friends.

STAY TUNED -- There's usually a theme for the night, so I'll update as soon as it's announced and that might affect your style plans.

I have extra LED blinkies if anyone needs them; let me know if you'd like to buy a pair for $5. They screw on to your bike's valve stems, and have motion sensors to auto turn on. Rainbow color cycle. Spare batteries included. :-)
