Having fun with less money, and
getting the most out of what we've got!
Frugal is good for your wallet and for the environment. Saving on one lets you splurge on another. Most importantly we are grateful for the abundance in our lives.
Frugal ( adj )
1. economical; prudently saving; not wasteful
2. entailing little expense; requiring few resources; thrifty
Specifically: We want people who love bargains and share the wealth. We're savvy, not stingy. We get a free meal and tip double. We can pull a broken door out of the dumpster and paint it for a garden mural. We can wait in line for hours and make friends, not a fuss. Ya dig?
Our Meetup philosophy:
We strive to be original, unique, creative and clever. So we avoid cross-posting events, we always cite our sources, and we avoid setting repeat events on auto-pilot. We do enjoy monthly traditions like board game nights and poker parties, and seasonal favorites like clothing swaps and potlucks. Our posts are written with care and lots of research (with an occasional quick FYI no-host post that's still dearly crafted for editorial excellence ;-)
Membership is free*
But we do appreciate donations! Meetup.com charges us $144 per year, plus we buy name tags, signs, games, and prizes. If you learned something from our hours of research and posting, or you had a fun time while we saved you money -- drop a thank-you handful of change into the ol' tip jar. We suggest $1 per event you attend, or whatever you think we're worth. If you can't afford to donate right now, this group will fix that in no time!
We take RSVPs seriously
We understand that mistakes happen, but if you RSVP Yes to an event and then repeatedly no-show, we'll remove you from this group.
Verify before going
When we add an event to the calendar, sometimes it's weeks in advance -- always check the event page for updates, and if it's an FYI only post, contact the venue to verify the event details.
If you're frugally experienced, you know that some deals take a lot of patience. We've sat through bogus pitches, stood in lines for hours, set up fake email addresses ... all for the thrill of saving money. Please join us with a happy sense of adventure -- 'cuz if something goes haywire and you're a downer, we'll ask you to find a meetup that better suits your attitude instead.
We love sponsors!
Our sponsors help keep the group running - either by offering discounts, referral links, or donations to our hosting fees. Please click and explore them so the pennies keep rolling in!
