A talking ape is nothing to laugh at, so we’ve packed our show with comedians that you can laugh at. Packed with top talent in Toronto, Planet of the Japes is a hugely entertaining evening that highlights outstanding Canadian improvisers and singers.
Featuring; Matt Hallworth, Kerry Griffin (Second City), Marcel St Pierre (YTV/CBC), Jan Caruana (Mean Girls), Lisa Merchant (Train 48), Holly Wyder (Sheridan) and more.
On This Show:
Since graduating from Theatre School (U of T / Sheridan College), Jan has been acting, writing, directing, and teaching, but improvising is what she loves best. A multiple Canadian Comedy Award winner, Jan has performed in venues across North America and is a mainstay on many Toronto stages with shows like Monkey Toast, About an Hour and her latest project That Moment When. She is a veteran of Theatresports Toronto (Bad Dog Theatre) and part of the Gemini Award-nominated writing team on the critically acclaimed YTV show That’s So Weird. Jan has appeared in films and TV including Mean Girls, The Time Traveler’s Wife and Being Erica
Lisa Merchant is an actor, improvisor, producer, and instructor. She has won 3 Canadian Comedy Awards. She acted and wrote for the Dora Mavor Moore nominated Martha Stewart Projects. She was also nominated for a Gemini Award with the cast of The Joe Blow Show. Lisa was an original member of the comedy troupe The Chumps. She played Brenda Murphy on Train 48 for 318 episodes and starred in 2 seasons of Go Girl!. She performs regulary in Monkey Toast and at Bad Dog Theatre. In March 2003, with “nods” from The Governor General, Prime Minister of Canada, Minister of Heritage, Premiere of Ontario and Mayor of Toronto, Merchant presented her self-produced 10th annual March of Dames Comedy Festival. Lisa is a guest columnist on the CBC Radio 1 show GO!
Nik is currently working on his bachelors degree in music theatre from Sheridan college. Previous credits include: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Spring Awakening, Parade, among others.
Jennifer Goodhue performed in five Second City Mainstage revues in Toronto, two of which won Canadian Comedy Awards. She's co-starred in CTV’s sketch show Comedy Inc. for 5 seasons and was one of the only females cast for The Conan O’Brian Show when taped in Toronto in 2004. Her canadian television credits include Murdoch Mysteries, Little Mosque and Dan for Mayor and has written for That's So Weird, This Hour Has 22 Minutes and Stroumboulopoulos Tonight.
Kerry Griffin is an alumni of Second City Toronto having written and performed in two award winning shows. He has recently directed three revues for Second City Toronto including the critically acclaimed Dreams Really Do Come True...and Other Lies and their current show We Can Be Heroes. He is a multiple Canadian Comedy Award winning performer both as an individual and with troupes Slap Happy and Monkey Toast.

-One beverage minimum to support the venue and performers
