Seminar on MapReduce Algorithms in the Cloud - October 23

Due to a scheduling conflict I have had to reschedule this meetup.  The new date is Wednesday, October 23.  I hope this does not cause too many problems.

We will have tea, cookies and networking at 11:30.  The talk will be from noon until 1:00pm.  I hope to see you here at Chapman University.

Google's MapReduce has emerged as a leading technology for dealing with Big Data

Dr. Atanas Radenski will present work from his recent sabbatical at Argonne National Lab.

Dr Radenski says: "I will begin this presentation with a gentle introduction to MapReduce parallelism. No preliminary knowledge of MapReduce is expected (but this presentation is an opportunity to gain some MapReduce understanding).

Technically, I will describe relaxation algorithms for the Laplace equation in MR streaming, and evaluate empirically their performance on Elastic MR, the Amazon MR cloud. These results can be beneficial to others who would like to develop and optimize MR streaming algorithms for grid-based models, such as PDE and cellular automata."

It was nice meeting Darpan Hongal and Khanh Tran at today's Meetup. Darpan said that the time of the meeting was a problem for him so I will try to schedule future Meetups later in the evening or an weekends.

If you have any ideas for future Meetups please let me know.
