Hadoop Training Class

The “Future Chief Data Scientists in OC” and the “OC Hadoop User Group” groups are co-hosting a vendor-neutral Hadoop training class where each attendee can bring their own laptop and work through hands-on training exercises designed for those who want to learn the very basics of Hadoop, Hive, Pig, etc.  The training will be “self-guided” where all attendees will receive a training handbook and will work through various exercises one after the other at their own pace on their own virtual machine.  A Hadoop instructor will be available to offer assistance to anyone who needs help completing his or her training exercises.  Wi-Fi and power outlets will be available inside the classroom.

    Dear Fellow Members,
    Whomever this helps:
Though the URL is not working for downloading either Oracle virtual box, what not, i'm following the instructions from the pdf file and searching for those for example Oracle VirtualBox v 4.3.4 and CentOS v6.5 and downloading and installing them one by one and hope you can do the same.

    Cheers,
    Chakri

Thxs. I run Linux Mint 64 bit & the instuctions 4 MAC & Win were only moderatly helpful. Fortunately I had installed other Linux VMs into VirtualBox. Setup is basically create CentOS VM using CentOS 6.5 32 bit ISO. Other than that little more than downloading 3 files from Apache.org that make up core of Hadoop.

If you are wondering why all the documents are unavailable, it's probably because the co-hosting OC Hadoop group sent me an email last night saying the event was cancelled (It seems the Hadoop training class is still on for Future Chief Data Scientists, and just cancelled for the people who signed up via the OC Hadoop meetup group).

I got caught up with some work and haven't managed to download/ install and configure the software. How much time does it typically take to get this done ? If I can't get it done, would it be possible for me to just look over someone's shoulder for this class ?

Prep alert: The training prep http://www.liondatasy... (see working link above) has steps ~2 & ~3 both directing to download from http://www.liondatasy...
*Unfortunately that URL also fails with same "Error 404: NOT FOUND!"
**I'm suspecting from this same problem as above.
**And without this, on quick read of the prep, completing the prep seems impossible.
      *However, apparently
** "Download the Windows VirtualBox “platform package” can be found directly at https://www.virtualbox...
      **"Download the CentOS v6.5 ISO Image ..” can be found at http://wiki.centos.or... i386 http://isoredirect.ce... then pick one then a distro variation;
***the prep not say there which variation but reading on they mention “CentOS-6.5-i386-LiveDVD…” so I guess that's it,tho bum as that really big: “[masked]” -would a smaller one work?
*And,curious, why not a direct link to the source? -these.

    Hi Michael,

I just noticed the URL at the end of the Training Class Preparation Document concerning the Handbook printing.

Is it too late to get a Handbook printed? I just filled-out the web-form.

    Thanks.

    Tim

*Great, please save me and probably a number of other folks here a copy as well, including as the request form http://bit.ly/1eF4JgD (which I just now first saw, too) now says "The handbook request deadline has past. ". Thanks!
*Could this handbook be distributed by just a URL say to a PDF?
**I'd much prefer that; and it's a lot less & cost than printing, plus searchable & text-selectable, and would save trees.
**Hopefully controlling circulation of this document is not required, but if it is, Google Docs (which request form uses) uses Google Drive which can specify which email addresses are able to access the file and/or withdraw access say after the class is over.

I was having issues in installing Virtual Box , it was because I was using logmein to access my other computer. If you are still having issues. Restart your system and make sure no other apps are running. You may also try to disable your antivirus during installation.

  • Gaurav

Sorry, I also couldn't fill out the form but I have set it up my system with centOS.

    Thanks
