Cyril Rakovski will give us a presentation, based on his research, about using genome information to make predictions about diseases. The title of his talk is "Genome wide association scans with case-control data". He will discuss the essence of the problem, in particular, hidden population structure, hidden relatedness, test statistics, and multiple comparisons procedures. He plans to show results from a real Alzheimer's disease study.
Although this will not be a tutorial in how to use R, you are encouraged to download R from http://www.r-project.org/ and install it on your laptop. You may also with to install the R-Studio IDE from https://www.rstudio.com/. If there is sufficient time, Cyril will provide some hands on activities using R.
We will not be providing refeshments for this meetup but we encourage you to attend the After Party at the World of Wings in Argyros Forum, a short walk across campus from Beckman Hall, immediately following the presentation.
