Networking in Your Job Search

7:00 PM Open Talk
Open Talk is GAAMC’s easiest discussion to join. Just show up! This group is designed to be as open and friendly as possible. The discussion is facilitated by a team of experienced leaders including Gordon, Sherri, Kerry, Liz and Elias. This loose and lively one-hour discussion is held in our Library, and this group welcomes people of all ages, gender identities and orientations to talk about topics derived from everyday life. Just coming out? Welcome. New to the area? Welcome. Been out forever? Welcome. Have a question, opinion, or burning desire? Welcome.

8:00 PM: The Role of Networking in Your Job Search:

Have you been searching for a job? Have you been hitting the internet and applying online only to find your paperwork disappearing into the online “black hole”? Well, come out on Feb. 3rd and learn from Len Resto’s mistakes as he walks us through his job search successes and failures. The key to finding a job is through networking. Yes, it’s “who you know” and not so much “what you know”. Come learn how to leverage your connections into a powerful network that will plug you into the job you want and in a relatively short period of time. Len will describe his journey and describe how to really use Linked In to your benefit. Come learn how to love tea and coffee because you’ll need to meet a lot of people!! Don’t miss out on this opportunity!

I've used Linked-In for a long time. I expect to learn more than I already know.

And....did you? It was great to see you last night!

Rich and Ron had great tips to share, too.

Len and Ron and Rich had solid information to share. We who have worked somewhere for twenty years know all too well how it feels to be tossed aside, and it was beneficial hearing survival strategies.

The first session discussion was very educational, something that I haven't thought about before. Thanks for the sharing. The second part is very informative, I haven't seriously looked for other possibilities since I am with my current company for about 20 years. Len Resto provided a valuable insight with his true experience to us. Other people also supported with good feedback during discussion. I wish I could have stayed till the end; thanks Len.

Len Resto gave great tips for being (and becoming) a great networker. My biggest takeaway is once you've landed, continue to participate in your networking - your connections, new and existing, are just as valuable to other people looking to find their right (or right-now) position.

This should be an interesting topic. LinkedIn is a very useful professional networking tool, I just checked; there are four "Len Resto" or "Lenard Resto". Is his title "VP, Senior Client Executive at USI Insurance Services"? CPCU?

Len Resto is an expert networking professional, a going green aficionado and an all around nice guy. If you haven't met him yet, you owe it to yourself to add his digits to your rolodex (or in "modern" terms, connect with him on LinkedIN). See you there!
