Extruder Cane Techniques

Julie Binney will be presenting 2 Extruder Cane Techniques: The Swanwalk and Easy Peasy Cane ala Ron Lehocky.

This is a technique-only demo, we will not be making a finished project.

Swanwalk canes by Louise Smith.

Leader: Julie Binney

Supplies and Tools: We will be using Extruder a wonderful tool accessory for clay artists, beginners as well as seasoned. It is usually available at the Polymer Clay section at an Art Supply store but Cake artists are using the same tool for Fondant, so you might want to check the Baking section.
It looks like this:

The Extruder comes with a set of diecut discs.
You will also need Core Extruder Adapters; click this link for Makin's brand Core Extruder Adapters.
Time to use your 40% discount coupon!

  • Pasta Machine w/clamps and handle, work surface, tissue blade... the usual basic tools.
  • Polymer Clay
2 complimentary colors of 1/2 block of clay. You may want to have it conditioned at home.
Several round logs of cane, simple design works best. If you don't have any cane, you can whip up simple Jelly Roll or Bull's Eye canes in any color combinations.

And also bring your work to show off.

We meet from 2:00 to 5:00. Reminder the room must be clean and put back together before we leave.

Great tutorial, Julie! The sample boards were marvelous. Thanks very much for your well thought out and beautifully presented tute!

If anyone wants to hook up a 1/4"-3/8" drill to your extruder (saves the hands, yanno), here's the place to get the universal adapter:

Great!!!!!! Julie did an excellent job and I learned how to use my extruder that I've had for years. I also learned what not to do; don't use much black as it takes over.

Julie is a GAPCG member with amazing talent. I've had a new extruder for 2 years. I'm looking forward to actually taking it out of the package to make this bangle.
