Javascript Workshop Series pt 3 - Mobile Performance Optimization

This is Workshop #3 in our series of 4 workshops in collaboration with GDG Waterloo in anticipation of the jQueryTO Conference.

Javascript: Performance Optimization

Participants will be introduced to various techniques related to improving the performance of Javascript-based web applications within the realm of Javascript and related CSS techniques.


By the end of the Workshop, participants will have taken a working web application example, observed performance failures in it, and go through a series of exercises to improve the performance.


Participants should have a basic familiarity of HTML, CSS and Javascript.

Software Required

• Code editor

• Web browser

Hardware Required

A computer / laptop able to run a modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari, IE9+), and a code editor (ie. Sublime, Notepad++, Dreamweaver, etc).

    Good workshop. I learned a fair bit about html5 boilerplate, css transforms, and media queries, but from the description I was expecting a much heavier emphasis on Javascript profiling.

      Hi Leons, thanks for joining us of course and glad you could get something out of it even though it may have not been what you were expecting. I wanted to take a moment and address this - you're right in that the definition was maybe a little misleading, but we had made a decision to shift focus a little bit based on the previous 2 sessions we covered and the resulting level of participants in those sessions. I did have some JS-related profiling topics I wanted to touch on as well near the end, but unfortunately ran out of time. Hopefully we can do a few more sessions that are heavier on the Javascript side coming up soon.
