The MEAN Stack

Our very own Kurt DaCosta will be walking us through building a server-side JavaScript app on the MEAN stack! If you've been hearing about server-side JavaScript and Node but haven't had the chance to really get into it, you will not want to miss this one.

MONGODB - EXPRESSJS - ANGULARJS - NODEJS

Bring your laptop! We're going to code along with Kurt.

Until recently, I was barely aware of server-side JS and want to thank the group for presentations on the same. I would suggest that, apart from syntax, server-side JS could be thought of as a technology like PHP or C# code-behind.

My thanks to JohnR for the tip to use the Github Bash shell as a Linux-like command window.

Kurt JohnR: could either or both add Kurt's very good into slides to the repos. The slides give context and purpose to the MEAN stack. Thanks

I have added the MEAN stack github repo as a submodule to our GDGWaterloo github repo. Run 'git submodule update' after doing a 'git pull' to get all the new stuff!

For those that wish to follow along and run the code locally, it would be great to come with Node & MongoDB already installed. I will post a Github repo a little before we start.

Sorry, I have to sit this one out too. Bad weather + time constraint. Any recommended resources to give the MEAN stack a try for oneself at home?

I would love to learn more about AngularJS and MongoDB, but the weather kind of suggests we won't be able to make it to Kitchener today. Sorry for that :[

So. JavaScript was nice - can we do some other code base / Hardware - could we get someone from Google to demo something ?

Now that all said in my I hate JS rant, we could have a meeting where we have "bring your JS problems to us" where speakers get to ask the group in 10 minutes or less a question about a bug.

I am taking a break from this one to work on my BattleShip project. If it is worthy I may do a show and tell at a later date.
