GDG Oslo December Meetup

Note! All seats are now taken, but if you are interested in participating put your name on the waiting list.

Schedule:

17:00-17:30:

Food (and more?), kindly sponsored by Google Norway.

Harald Jakob Skaarn from Google gives a short introduction to Google and a brief tour of Google's Norway office.

17:30-18:10 - "How to Create and Maintain Large Web Apps in JavaScript" (Peter Svensson, Google Community Manager/Greener Grass Web Design )

Peter Svensson have written large JS apps for several years and will walk through his favorite tips and tricks to get a maintainable codebase and a reactive application.

18:10-18:50 - "Test-driven Android Development - Tools and Techniques" (Johan Burrell, EVRY Stockholm - presentation held via Google Hangout)

These days apps have become more and more business centric, long lived through frequent updates and dependent on a number of external frameworks or APIs. Good routines for testing can help reduce development time, find bugs early and make maintenance easy. In this talk, Johan will demonstrate some techniques and tools available for the Android platform that are suitable for both small and big projects.

18:50-19:30 - "Fast, user-friendly and power-efficient network communication on Android" (Erik Hellman, Sony Mobile - presentation held via Google Hangout)

Erik Hellman works as a Research Engineer at Sony Mobile in Lund, Sweden. He has also worked as a lead software architect for the Android development on the Xperia smart phone series.

Designing and implementing an efficient network communication in your Android application is not an easy task. Developers face a difficult balance between latency, power-efficiency, data charges and several other aspects that can be the cause for bad reviews. In this session Sony Mobile will share their experience and lessons learned on how to handle network communication in the most effective way possible. Learn how to be power efficient while still keeping the best possible latency for the end user.

I really liked the third presentation. As well as being knowledgeable about the subject matter, the presenter also knew how to explain things well.

Takk for i går, det var en flott oppstart!

Seems like more people wanted to join, but looking away from this.. it was pretty good, with some nice talks to start the meetup group with.

Is anyone interested in going for a beer or five after the meetup? If so, please leave a +1 here so that I can reserve tables at some nearby bar.

De to siste presentasjonene via Google Hangout burde det vel være mulig å få med seg via nett selv om man ikke får plass på selve arrangementet? Litt overrasket over at Google Norge har så lite auditorium :)

Frode: If Peter and Hans Petter finds a way to make the presentation available to more people I'm not against it, but there might be technical hurdles making that difficult. In either case, I can make the material publicly available after the meetup so that anyone who wants can take a look. Attending or not.

Hei igjen begge, har sendt ut litt info via mail omkring dette. Det blir mulighet for streaming av meetupen via Google+/YouTube, men dessverre blir den for dere som ikke har fått plass holdt hos Google denne gangen.
