Meetup this Wednesday + Call for Speakers

The upcoming meetup this Wednesday

Thank you all for your overwhelming interest in the first GDG Oslo meetup! To be honest, we thought 20 seats for the first meetup would be more than enough, but you have - luckily - proven us wrong.

Unfortunately, we regret to inform those that are on the waiting list or have yet to reply, that the meetup will be held at Google's offices as originally planned. There are several reasons for this: Hans Petter has been out travelling the last couple of weeks, making it hard to find an alternate venue. Also, Google has all the necessary equipment at their office for both streaming the incoming sessions held via Google Hangout, and for publishing a stream of said sessions and the rest of the meetup to those that didn't get a seat. On top of this, we think it will be interesting for people interested in Google technology to get a tour at the Google office here in Oslo.

But, we promise: we will make sure that the next meetup will be held at a venue with bigger capacity.

The stream of the meetup will be available through our Google+ page (and later on YouTube).

Call for speakers - aka competition!

We aim to make GDG Oslo an active meetup group, and to have an active group we need speakers. To help us kickstart the group, Google will give away one Nexus 7 to a person that submits a presentation for the January meetup.

Have you got something interesting to talk about that you think others should know, and which is Google related? Submit your presentation by filling this form, and attendees on the first meetup this Wednesday will choose what submission they think is best. The submission with the most votes wins the Nexus 7 - easy as that! Note: you must be able to hold the presentation at our next meetup on January 23rd, 2013.

Keep in mind that Google related doesn't necessarily mean that you need to talk about a specific Google product. E.g.: a session on HTML5 is perfectly fine as Chrome can render HTML5 pages, a session on Python/Java is perfectly fine as Python/Java apps can be hosted on App Engine, etc.

Call for organizers

As has already been proven, having one organizer is not enough. Would you like to help organize GDG Oslo events by finding speakers, venues and fixing other practicalities? Please contact Hans Petter. You will need to set aside approximately 3 to 5 hours a month for this, but we promise you you'll have a good time and learn much from doing it.

Last, but not least: Have a great weekend all, and thanks again!

Best wishes,

Hans Petter (organizer), Harald (Google Norway) and Peter (GDG Community Manager)
