Mask & Movement Foundation: Create Your Own Halloween Character!

  • Sep 13, 2013 · 10:15 AM

**This class will be at the Creative Alliance, 727 Pine Ave., LB **

This is a 6 week course.

Students will create characters and make masks based on them.  Each experience includes mask creation and movement.  Theatre games will help define the character your child designs.  The student will be guided in the design of their own personal Halloween character, including the mask, character movement, and behavior.  Includes an Alginate or plaster bandage face-casting experience and will require the assistance of the parent or caregiver for the 3rd session.  Students will take home a paster life-mask and other masks of their creation.

We will be late today as I am in super slow motion due to asthma. Sorry. :-/

    Hi Everyone,
This week we did a really stellar part of the project. Because this class really should be longer, Caprice and I spent some time during the week making a positive out of the negative mold that was created last week. That enabled us to pour a plaster mold in a positive impression of the child's face.

We now have a negative and a positive from which we can make masks tailored to the child's face.

It's truly awesome, and it is really important that you attend the next 2 sessions!

    We are learning so much!

We joined the mask and movement class last week. Since we joined mid class. They reduced the fee. They wanted me to message you and let you know.

    Hi Cindy,
We will be leaving Pasadena at 10:30am on the 27th, the parent assistance day, maybe a little before that but not much, as we have a pre-paid workshop on that day. Is this going to be a problem? :-/

That should be fine. Caprice will be able to stay a little late that day. Thanks for asking!

This looks like a fun class!! Wish my LO was old enough. Just do you all afford to take all these fun classes?

You choose but it has to follow California State Standards. Every Charter is different. There are even more than the ones I've listed and every school district also has a homeschool option, (but with District you have to use their materials). The benefits are you offset your costs about $800 a semester but the downside is you still have to work with standards that probably don't honor the individual, pedagogically sound, development of your child. Also, they have to test them twice a year to quantify their learning.

Thanks for all your input ladies! I really appreciate it. My husband is not 100% convinced of the homeschool idea, so a charter school seems like a happy medium. Looks like I have a lot of research to do! Btw- I have a 3yr old and 3mo old.

Hey Cindy, Doesn't look like we're going to have enough kids for the Friday EMH Sports PE Class at Stearns. SO, I was thinking of signing Alba up for this. She has speakers league at 12:30 this Friday though. If she does this class, can I pull her for lunch a little early, like 15 minutes?

    • Cindy C

Hi Ines, Masks will start next week on 9/13. I think Speaker's League is starting at 12:30pm tomorrow only. After that, they start at 1pm. Let me know if you have different info. Thanks and this class is going to be awesome.
