With the help of gee! families we are starting a volunteer group for our children! We hope to create a group where our kids will come up with ideas to help our community and then our families can take action to help with a cause.
Our first event is for Food Finders. Food Finders has been serving Southern California since 1989. They rescue good wholesome food and deliver it to partner agencies. In 2012, they provided over 6 million pounds of food to 200 agencies. That is providing a value of $11m to our local communities.
This volunteer opportunity is to sort and box food at their Signal Hill location. While this is a regular working environment, our families are welcome as long as parents keep an eye on the younger ones. I'm hoping each family will be able to do a particular job together. We will find out more when we get there. This is a warehouse location, so please wear closed-toe shoes and bring a sweater as it might be chilly. They are very excited to work with our group of homeschoolers.
