Our goal with our Speakers League clubs is to develop the public speaking and leadership skills of Southern California homeschoolers aged 10 and up. (Serious-minded younger ones are welcome too.) We welcome homeschoolers of every stripe. We have independent homeschoolers and families who have joined different public and private school programs. We are a very diverse group. Everyone is welcome.
I encourage you to check out the website at
and even view a highlight video of a meeting at
Watch the whole thing, or skim through it. It features the South Bay club which has been around since 2008 and has had over 100 meetings.
Though mentored by adults who conduct periodic training segments, the meetings are run by the kids themselves. Parents are welcome to stay and watch.
It takes about 12 months to complete a "Level," which entails giving seven speeches with varying emphases, plus doing each of the other 9 club roles from MC to timekeeper. There are four levels for Speakers League. Children that complete all four levels and have been a club officer at least once, are then considered “Club Mentors.”
